Disney Japan has revealed the first teaser for Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation: Episode of Savanaclaw, confirming that the next chapter will arrive on Disney Plus and Hulu in December 2026.

What immediately caught my attention isn’t just the return of Leona Kingscholar or the move away from Heartslabyul. The really interesting part is the decision to introduce Yuuka Hirasaka, a completely different version of the protagonist, with Fairouz Ai taking the role. That choice could dramatically change the emotional dynamic of the Savanaclaw story.

After the first season introduced viewers to the bizarre mix of Disney villains, magic-school drama, comedy, and surprisingly serious character writing, Season 2 has a much more aggressive personality. Savanaclaw is built around The Lion King, but don’t expect a simple collection of familiar references. This arc is about resentment, ambition, competition, and what happens when someone decides that playing fair is no longer an option.

The Savanaclaw Arc Finally Gets Its Moment

The new teaser makes it very clear that Leona Kingscholar is the center of attention. Voiced once again by Yuichiro Umehara, Leona immediately feels like a completely different presence from the characters who dominated the first season.

His attitude has always been one of the best things about him. Leona isn’t the typical anime character who loudly announces his ambitions every five minutes. He’s intelligent, powerful, lazy when he wants to be, and deeply bitter about circumstances he believes he never had a chance to change.

The teaser leans heavily into that side of his personality. His narration carries a quiet bitterness as he talks about how unfair life can be and how some things simply refuse to change, regardless of effort. That’s exactly the kind of dialogue that makes Leona work. He doesn’t sound like a cartoon villain plotting for the sake of being evil. He sounds like someone who has spent years convincing himself that his choices are justified.

The trailer also gives Ruggie Bucchi and Jack Howl plenty of attention. Ruggie, voiced by Aoi Ichikawa, still has that deceptively playful expression that makes it difficult to tell exactly what he’s thinking. Jack, voiced by Taito Ban, appears far less comfortable with the direction things are heading.

For me, the biggest announcement is easily Fairouz Ai joining the cast as Yuuka Hirasaka.

Fairouz Ai has already established herself as one of the most recognizable younger voices in anime. Her performances as Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean and Power in Chainsaw Man showed just how much personality and physical energy she can bring to a character.

Yuuka should give her plenty of room to use both.

Unlike the passive or deliberately neutral player-avatar concept associated with the original game, Yuuka is presented as a strong-willed high school student and competitive judo athlete. Her introduction is wonderfully strange in the best Twisted-Wonderland tradition. After returning home from a judo tournament, she encounters a mysterious carriage and suddenly finds herself transported into a world where magic, talking monsters, bizarre students, and Disney-inspired villains are perfectly normal.

I actually like this approach. Yuuka doesn’t feel like someone who was designed simply to stand in the background while more interesting characters do everything. She has a physical skill set, a defined personality, and the kind of stubborn confidence that could create some genuinely funny confrontations with Leona.

And let’s be honest: putting a competitive judo athlete in front of Leona Kingscholar is a much more entertaining idea than giving him another timid protagonist to intimidate.

Why Twisted-Wonderland Keeps Changing Its Protagonist

If you only watched the first anime season, Yuuka’s arrival might seem strange. Why replace the protagonist instead of continuing the same story with the previous character?

The answer comes from the way Twisted-Wonderland has been adapted across different versions of the franchise.

The original mobile game uses a player character generally known as Yuu or the Prefect, whose identity is intentionally flexible. The idea is that players can project themselves into the world rather than follow a traditionally defined protagonist.

The manga adaptations take another route. Different story arcs can feature different versions of the protagonist, allowing each character to have a personality specifically suited to the dormitory being explored.

The first anime season followed Yuken Enma during the Heartslabyul storyline. Season 2 switches to Yuuka Hirasaka for Savanaclaw.

That isn’t a random casting decision. It gives each arc its own flavor.

How the Main Characters Differ Across the Arcs

Some fans understandably prefer having one continuous protagonist, but I think the rotating approach makes sense for this particular franchise. Why force one protagonist into every situation when the story can instead introduce someone who naturally clashes with the characters at the center of each arc?

The Production Team Is Staying the Course

Season 2 isn’t rebuilding the anime from scratch. Shin Katagai returns as director, while Yumeta Company and Graphinica continue handling the animation production. Yoichi Kato is also back overseeing series composition, while Haruka Nakano and Akane Sato continue adapting Yana Toboso’s original character designs for animation.

That consistency matters.

The first season had to establish a very unusual visual identity. Twisted-Wonderland isn’t simply another fantasy-school anime with Disney names attached to it. Its character designs have to preserve Toboso’s distinctive style while also making the different dormitories feel like separate worlds.

Savanaclaw should be particularly fun from an animation perspective. The desert-inspired setting, athletic competition, animal motifs, and physically imposing characters give the production plenty of opportunities to create a different atmosphere from the red-and-white theatrical look of Heartslabyul.

And I would much rather see the staff build on what already works than radically change the visual formula between seasons.

Season 3 Is Already Waiting in the Wings

Disney’s larger strategy for the anime also becomes clearer with Season 2.

The adaptation is being structured around individual dormitory stories rather than attempting to squeeze the enormous mobile-game narrative into one continuous anime plot. Season 1 tackled Heartslabyul, Season 2 moves into Savanaclaw, and Season 3 is planned as Episode of Octavinelle.

That third storyline will shift attention toward Azul Ashengrotto and the Monstro Lounge crew, drawing inspiration from The Little Mermaid.

It’s a smart format for a franchise this crowded. There are so many characters in Twisted-Wonderland that trying to give everyone equal attention at once would probably make the anime feel rushed. Breaking the adaptation into focused arcs gives each dormitory room to breathe.

It also means viewers can expect every season to have its own identity rather than feeling like one giant story stretched across dozens of episodes.

What to Expect From Disney Twisted-Wonderland Season 2

The current plan places Disney Twisted-Wonderland Season 2 in December 2026, with Disney Plus and Hulu serving as the streaming destinations. A specific premiere date is still something fans will have to wait for.

The teaser has already done its job, though. It has introduced Yuuka, confirmed Fairouz Ai’s casting, brought Leona back into the spotlight, and made it clear that the Savanaclaw storyline won’t simply repeat the formula of Heartslabyul.

For me, the most promising part is the character contrast. Leona is someone who believes the world has already decided his place for him, while Yuuka is introduced as someone who fights back when things don’t go her way. That’s a much stronger foundation for conflict than simply putting a new student into Night Raven College and letting the plot happen around her.

If the anime gives that relationship enough time to develop, the Savanaclaw arc could become the point where Twisted-Wonderland really finds its identity as an anime rather than just an adaptation of a popular game.

December 2026 suddenly feels a lot more interesting.
