Black Clover Episode 171 Release Date Schedule Chart: Official Confirmation, Rumors
For years, asking about Black Clover Episode 171 became almost a running joke among anime fans. Every few months there was another “leak,” another fake countdown, another rumor claiming Asta was about to return. None of them survived more than a few weeks.
Now that the series finally has an official release window, I think the conversation has become much more interesting than simply asking when the anime returns. The real question is whether five years away from television actually made Black Clover a stronger franchise.
Personally, I believe it did.
The long break looked painful back in 2021, but with hindsight it may turn out to be the smartest production decision Studio Pierrot has ever made.
The Wait Was Frustrating — But It Solved the Biggest Problem
When Episode 170 aired, the anime had nearly caught up with Yuki Tabata’s manga. Anyone who has watched long-running shonen series knows exactly what usually happens next.
Either:
- endless filler arcs,
- painfully slow pacing,
- or episodes stretching a single manga chapter into twenty minutes.
None of those options would have helped Black Clover.
Instead, production stopped.
At the time many fans were disappointed, myself included. It felt like the story had been abandoned right before one of its biggest conflicts.
Looking back now, though, that pause gave the manga room to breathe. More importantly, it allowed the anime staff to rethink how the series should be produced.
That decision may end up benefiting every episode that follows.
Seasonal Production Is Exactly What Black Clover Needed
One of the biggest changes isn’t the release date.
It’s the production model.
The original anime followed a continuous weekly schedule for years. That approach worked, but it also produced noticeable highs and lows in animation quality. Some battles looked spectacular, while others clearly suffered from impossible deadlines.
A seasonal format changes everything.
Instead of trying to deliver dozens of episodes every year, Studio Pierrot can concentrate resources on a smaller batch.
That usually means:
- cleaner action choreography,
- stronger compositing,
- better visual effects,
- and far more consistent animation.
After seeing what the studio accomplished with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, it’s difficult not to feel optimistic.
If Black Clover receives even a similar level of attention, many of the upcoming manga fights could become the best-looking moments in the franchise.
Episode 171 Starts Where Things Finally Become Wild
One thing I appreciate is that the anime isn’t returning with another training arc.
It jumps almost immediately into the Spade Kingdom Raid, which many manga readers still consider one of Black Clover’s strongest stretches.
Without diving into major spoilers, this section of the story delivers exactly what longtime viewers have been waiting for:
| What Fans Can Expect | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Larger-scale battles | The conflict finally feels like a war instead of isolated fights. |
| More character development | Several supporting characters receive long-overdue spotlight moments. |
| Faster pacing | There is very little downtime once the raid begins. |
| Bigger emotional stakes | Victories and defeats carry real consequences. |
That’s one reason Episode 171 carries so much weight.
It isn’t simply “the next episode.”
It begins an entirely different phase of Black Clover.
Asta Still Has Something Many Modern Heroes Don’t
I’ve always found it interesting how opinions about Asta changed over the years.
Back in the earliest episodes, criticism focused almost entirely on one thing:
His constant shouting.
For a while, that overshadowed everything else.
Today, people rarely mention it.
Instead, many fans appreciate something much more important—his consistency.
Unlike protagonists who constantly question whether they should keep fighting, Asta never loses sight of his goal.
That could have become repetitive.
Instead, Tabata gradually surrounded him with characters who challenge his beliefs from completely different angles.
- Yuno.
- Noelle.
- Yami.
- Liebe.
Each of them pushes Asta forward without replacing what makes him unique.
By Episode 171, viewers will finally see the payoff of years of growth rather than another restart.
Why Fans Are More Excited Than They Were Five Years Ago
Normally, long breaks hurt anime momentum.
Black Clover seems to have escaped that fate.
If anything, anticipation has grown.
Part of that comes from newer fans discovering the series through streaming services after the original broadcast ended.
Another reason is simple:
The competition changed.
Shows like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War raised expectations for television animation.
Instead of returning to the same landscape it left behind, Black Clover is entering one where spectacular visuals have almost become the standard.
That sounds intimidating.
I actually think it’s motivating.
Studio Pierrot knows comparisons are inevitable.
The promotional footage already suggests the staff understands exactly what viewers expect.
My Biggest Hope Isn’t Better Animation
Everyone talks about sakuga.
I get it.
Beautiful animation sells trailers.
But honestly?
What I’m hoping for most is better pacing.
Some sections of the original television run occasionally lingered longer than necessary because the anime couldn’t overtake the manga.
That limitation no longer exists.
With plenty of source material available, the adaptation has an opportunity to let dramatic moments breathe while keeping the overall story moving.
If that balance is achieved, Episode 171 may feel less like continuing an old weekly anime and more like watching a premium modern production.
That difference matters.
Expected Release Schedule
Although individual broadcast dates may shift slightly, the first cour is expected to follow a standard weekly pattern.
| Episode | Expected Window |
|---|---|
| Episode 171 | Early October 2026 |
| Episode 172 | Mid October 2026 |
| Episode 173 | Late October 2026 |
| Episode 174 | Late October 2026 |
| Episode 175 | Early November 2026 |
| Episode 176 | Mid November 2026 |
| Episode 177 | Late November 2026 |
| Episode 178 | Late November 2026 |
| Episode 179 | Early December 2026 |
| Episode 180 | Mid December 2026 |
| Episode 181 | Late December 2026 |
| Episode 182 | Late December 2026 |
As always, television scheduling can introduce minor adjustments, but October 2026 is the release window fans should be watching.

Why This Return Feels Earned
Some anime disappear for years and return mostly because nostalgia sells.
Black Clover doesn’t strike me as one of those cases.
There’s still unfinished story to tell.
The manga moved far beyond where the anime stopped, meaning the adaptation has plenty of exciting material waiting.
That alone gives this comeback genuine purpose.
Even better, the production team isn’t pretending nothing changed over the last five years. They’re embracing a new release model, updated visuals, and what appears to be a much more polished presentation.
For me, that’s the right approach.
I’d much rather wait several years for a season that looks consistently excellent than watch another hundred rushed weekly episodes struggling to stay ahead of the manga.
If the premiere delivers on what the trailers are hinting at, Episode 171 won’t simply mark Black Clover’s return. It could be the moment the anime finally reaches the level many fans always believed it was capable of.
